Find Us Faithful
Find Us Faithful
A faithful [woman] will have many blessings.
Several years ago, I became interested in using dogs for therapy work, so I contacted a therapy group in my area and took the necessary steps to train my Doberman pinscher. After he passed his tests, Diesel and I were ready to go.
I made a commitment to visit a local nursing home twice a month. Every other week, I bathed and groomed Diesel. Then I tied a bandanna around his neck and loaded him into my SUV for the trip to the nursing home. The residents looked forward to our visits, and Diesel loved the extra attention.
Sometimes I was tempted to sleep in on Saturday mornings. As a busy working woman, I didn’t always feel like getting up early and going through the routine of bathing and grooming Diesel. But I had made a commitment, and I thought it was important to keep it.
We developed a special relationship with an eighty-five-year-old widow. Mrs. Tate stroked Diesel’s sleek black coat while she told stories about her husband, who had served in World War II, and her children and grandchildren, who lived in other states.
One Saturday as Diesel rested his head in Mrs. Tate’s lap, I began to tell her about the love of Jesus. While she had always had a basic belief in God, she didn’t have a personal relationship with Him. During each visit, I told her how God was working in my life and that He wanted a special relationship with her, too.
After several weeks of my witnessing to Mrs. Tate, she embraced Jesus as her Savior. Two weeks later when Diesel and I visited the nursing home, her bed was empty. She had gone home to be with the Lord. I’m thankful that God helped me to be faithful to my commitment.
If you feel the Lord is leading you to make a commitment to something or someone, ask Him to provide you with the grace and strength you’ll need to follow through. Don’t let schedules or the little details of your life derail God’s plan for you. If He has called you to do something, He will bless you for being obedient.
Rest Assured
Father, thank You for being interested in the details of my life. Please help me to be faithful to the commitments You have called me to make so that others will give glory to You.
Rest in Him: Psalm 18:24-27
