Be An Encourager

Be an Encourager

Encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

You can do it!” “Good try!” “You’re doing a great job.” These are words of encouragement you might hear spoken to you by a parent, teacher, or friend. Hearing them probably makes you feel good inside and inspires you to try harder. Encouragement is like that.

God’s princesses can be great encouragers for others. You may talk to many different people each day. God plans for you to make a difference in their lives. You can have a positive influence on other people by speaking words that are helpful and uplifting. In order to be an encourager, you have to be focused on others. Take your eyes off yourself, and look around for someone who needs a positive reminder.

How can you encourage others today? An easy way is with your words. Telling people what they are doing right or inspiring them not to give up may be just the boost they need to keep going on a difficult task.

Another way to encourage a friend, fellow student, or family member is to pitch in and help out with a chore, problem, or project. Sometimes doing a job or an assignment alone seems overwhelming, but when someone steps up and says, “I’ll help you,” it makes a big difference. Suddenly the task seems possible.

Go a step beyond, and encourage someone by serving him or her. Does your mom look worn out? Do a job for her so she can take a break. Does your brother look stressed? Do something kind for him without letting him see you. Step up and do something for someone else without expecting anything in return.

There are a lot of discouragers in the world. They are the ones who want you to believe you aren’t pretty enough, talented enough, or smart enough. They cause you to doubt your abilities or make you think you aren’t capable of doing certain things. Don’t listen to the discouragers, and don’t be one either. Be the kind of person who supports others and rejoices in their successes.

Who have you noticed that needs a word of encouragement? Look around for someone who is struggling with an assignment or a chore. Look for someone who is discouraged. What can you say to make a difference? How can your help encourage him or her?
