A Winner In God’s Eyes

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

Psalm 139:14

Most schools have a group of “in” girls. Those are the girls that are cute, funny, and stylish. You often see them gathered in a little group in the hall. You might have walked by them and wished you were part of the group because they seem to have it all together—looks, clothes, and personality. Or maybe you’re part of that group, but you don’t really feel as if you have it all together.

Sometimes it seems as if some girls have more than their share of beauty, personality, and talents. They wear the newest styles and have the latest gadgets. And sometimes that just doesn’t seem fair.

The good news is that beauty, an outgoing personality, and talents don’t make you a winner in God’s eyes. You are already a winner to him because he personally created you the exact way he wanted to. He created you to be a one-of-a-kind princess to serve and worship him. So when you think of yourself as being specially created by the God who created the whole universe, you’ll start to see yourself as a winner.

Unfortunately, not everyone in life will value your worth. In fact, some girls can get downright mean with girls they don’t think are as good as they are. They may ignore them, gossip about them, or start rumors about them.

Those things can hurt if you are on the receiving end of them, but they don’t change who you are inside. Surround yourself with friends who value you for who you are. Don’t be sucked in to the comparison game and judge yourself by how your looks, clothes, belongings, and even your friends measure up to theirs. That’s not what really matters. Sure, it’s okay to want to look your best and wear nice clothes, but remember, that’s not what gives you your worth. Your worth comes from God. You don’t have to be part of a certain group to be “in” with God.

Appearances change, clothes become outdated, and friends grow apart, but you are forever God’s princess, and nothing can change that.

Think about it. How do you judge your worth? Have you gotten sucked in to the comparison game? Do you let what others think of you overshadow your worth to God? Read 1 Peter 3:3-4 in your Bible, and take time to reflect on your real worth.
