Winter Morning

Winter Morning

CREATOR OF ALL SEASONS, I awoke this morning to a dismal winter’s day. The beauty and magic of Christmas have passed, and there is still so much more winter to endure. The cold and darkness of these days weigh me down like a wet blanket.

Father, you have set the sun, moon, and earth in their places. You have determined the seasons, showing us the cycles of life, death, and resurrection. You have made all things for your glory and for us to enjoy, and you have called them “very good.”

When the winter rains come, God, may I reflect that rain is a blessing, nourishing the earth. When it is overcast, may I remember your presence in the clouds of Mount Sinai where you gave Moses your commandments for your people. And when it snows, may I recall the prophet’s words: “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.” These weather conditions are signs that proclaim your constant care, not only for your good earth, but for your people—for me—upon whom you have lavished your love. Thank you. Amen.
