Surgery Of A Friend

Surgery of a Friend

CARING FATHER, one of my friends is facing major surgery. Her situation will likely involve significant decisions, treatments, and routines in the weeks to come. I care deeply for my friend and will help however I can. I also appeal to you, God, for the kinds of help, strength, and healing only you can provide.

I remember a time when I had surgery and felt your presence with me, Lord. Just before I was wheeled into the operating room, a nurse turned to me and said, “I’ll be praying for you. He’s the Great Physician, you know.” Those were such comforting words on which to float away . . .

Just as you encouraged me, please encourage my friend. Whether it’s a person who sits at her bedside or a friend who chats with her on the phone, please prompt people around her to speak words that are brimming with kindness, encouragement, and understanding. Please send her exactly what she needs at just the right times—a book to read, an offer to run an errand, or a bowl of homemade soup to nourish her body and spirit.

Most of all, Father, please give my friend a sense of how much you love and care about her.
