Romans 6:23

Romans 6:23

The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23 is an often-quoted verse that emphasizes the Good in Good News. A wage is payment for work we have done, while a gift is the opposite—it is given without expectation of anything in return. Paul emphasizes that because Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty for our sins, we who place our trust in him are justified before God. As a result, we are no longer subject to the law of sin and eternal death. Have you grasped the significance of this crucial truth? We’ve done nothing to earn God’s amazing gift, yet because of his great love for us, he has freely given it. Take a moment to thank God that his grace isn’t based on your efforts.
