Psalm 42:5-6,8

Psalm 42:5-6,8

Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God! . . . Each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.

One of the beautiful things about the Bible is that it often includes expressions of the raw emotions its writers were feeling, which readers can relate to. Everyone can recount a time when they felt discouraged and deeply sad. This psalm gives us an example of praying our emotions. The writer doesn’t hold back from communicating his feelings to God. But he ends with praise, remembering God’s unfailing love and care. What raw emotion is in your heart today? How can you express it to God and finish by praising him?
