Psalm 3:3-4

Psalm 3:3-4

You, O LORD, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain.

David wrote this beautiful psalm during a time of turmoil, when one of his own sons had turned against him. Even though it begins with despair, it quickly turns into a psalm filled with hope. Our earthly troubles often sweep us toward a black hole of anguish, but David’s words remind us to look back up to our Creator. He is the one who “holds our heads high” when our strength and hope have been depleted. What is keeping you from lifting your face toward God today? Whatever it is, be encouraged that your heavenly Father is your shield, your protector, and your helper. He listens to your cries, and he promises to answer.
