Proverbs 15:1

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.

Since Proverbs is a book about wise living, it includes an illustration describing how words impact our tempers. Of all the emotions we feel, anger is one of the most difficult to control. Anger itself is not wrong, but it becomes a problem when it leads us to sin against God and others. Thankfully, God in his wisdom has given us practical advice on how to handle anger—both our own and the anger of others. A gentle answer is always the wisest response. Sometimes we feel tempted to lash out with our words, but God’s Word warns us this will only make tempers flare. How do you usually respond when you face anger? Ask God to help you remember this verse the next time you find yourself in a tense situation.
