Matthew 16:13-17

Matthew 16:13-17

Jesus . . . asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you.”

The disciples had spent much time with Jesus, and yet this is the first time Peter spoke of Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus called Peter blessed because God had revealed this great truth to him. Who is Jesus to you? Is he your safety net? Your obligatory master? Or is he your Savior and friend? Ask God to bless you by revealing who Jesus really is.
