Job 1:21
Job 1:21
The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!
For those who have lost someone or something of great worth, these words are hard to read. A man named Job spoke them after learning he had lost everything. Before this happened, Job had everything a person could ever want, including a beautiful family. God allowed his enemy, Satan, to test Job’s character, so Satan took away all of Job’s possessions. Yet Job’s response to grief shows his great character, his absolute devotion to God, and his trust that God would eventually make things right. Satan intended for Job to turn his back on God, but Job chose to praise God’s name instead. How might Job’s response encourage you to turn toward God in your seasons of loss?
