Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. . . . The LORD himself will fight for you.”

After the Egyptians had endured ten plagues brought upon them by the Lord, Pharaoh finally released the Israelites. But soon after, Pharaoh changed his mind and commanded his army to chase them down and bring them back into captivity. The Israelites were in an impossible situation—caught between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea—when Moses spoke his reassuring words. We all experience times when life feels hopeless and there seems to be no way out. When we don’t know what to do, these words give us direction and hope in the midst of despair: Don’t be afraid. Be still. Watch for the Lord. He will fight for you and rescue you. Do you need to be reminded of this promise today?
