I will strengthen you.

God has a full reserve of power with which to fulfill today’s promise, for He is able to do all things. Dear believer, until you can drain the ocean of God’s omnipotence dry, or until you can break the towering mountains of His almighty strength into pieces, you need never fear. Never think that man’s strength will ever be able to overcome the power of God. As long as the earth’s huge pillars still stand, you have reason enough to stand firm in your faith. The same God who directs the earth in its orbit, who fuels the burning furnace of the sun, and who lights the starry lamps of heaven has promised to supply you with daily strength. Since He is fully able to sustain the universe, never even imagine He will prove unable to fulfill His own promises.

Remember what He did in days of old, in the former generations. Remember how He spoke and it was done, how He commanded and creation came to be. Will He who created the world now grow weary? Will He who hung the world on nothing suddenly be unable to support His children? Will He be unfaithful to His Word for lack of power? Who is it that controls the storms, for “He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind” (Ps. 104:3) and holds the oceans “in the hollow of his hand” (Isa. 40:12)? How can He fail you? When He has placed such a faithful promise as this in His Word, will you believe for even a moment that He may have “out-promised” Himself, going beyond His power to fulfill? No, doubt no longer!

O my God and my strength, I believe Your promise will be fulfilled, for the boundless reservoir of Your grace can never be exhausted, and the overflowing storehouse of Your strength can never be emptied by Your friends or stolen by Your enemies.

Now let the feeble all be strong,
And make Jehovah’s arm their song.

Today Spurgeon focuses our attention on our sovereign, omnipotent God—“The LORD [who] is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made” (Ps. 145:13). Why not spend the remainder of your devotional time this morning reflecting on two of today’s Scriptures in their following contexts:

Praise the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

Psalm 104:1 – 5

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?

Isaiah 40:12

And always remember—“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isa. 40:8).
