Magnificent Prayer #91
Magnificent Prayer #91
…that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you…
John 17:21
Many can do nothing but pray, and prayer is perhaps the one thing in which Christians of all denominations can cordially and unreservedly unite and in this we may all be one.
Were the whole body thus animated by one soul, with what pleasure would believers fulfill all their duties as Christians, and with what delight would their ministers attend to their duties as shepherds of God’s flock.

Pray About It: Although Jesus prayed often, we don’t know the content of many of those prayers. However, in John 17, we hear Jesus pray for several things, primarily unity among His people. This is something for which we should continue to pray, because Satan’s number one strategy against the church is to create division.
William Carey was one of the pioneer missionaries in the church. He lived a hard, hard life in India. But he was a mighty prayer warrior. His motto was “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.”
The first portion of his motto has to do with the way we pray. We should expect that God will give us great answers to prayer. The second part of Carey’s motto has to do with action. Having prayed, will we then attempt to do great things for God, trusting Him to lead the way? Even the hard way that Carey was called to follow?
It may be hard for us to think that such a motto can apply to us. But it can. Pray today for your expectations of God to increase. Pray in unity with the rest of God’s church.
Remember:
Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.
