Magnificent Prayer #72

The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

Proverbs 15:29

Oftentimes when we come to God in prayer, we don’t feel like praying. What shall we do when this happens? Stop praying until we do feel like it? Not at all. When we feel least like praying is the time when we most need to pray.

We should wait quietly before God and tell Him how cold and prayerless our hearts are, and look up to Him and trust Him and expect Him to send the Holy Spirit to warm our hearts and draw them out in prayer.

It will not be long before the glow of the Spirit’s presence will fill our hearts.

R. A. TORREY

Pray About It: If the truth were known, most of the men and women of faith have struggled with prayer. They’ve not often felt the Spirit of God magnetically pull them to prayer. Rather it’s usually as they pray that God meets them and thus they continue in prayer.

We depend entirely too much on our feelings as a test of our prayers. We pray if we feel like it, but if something better comes along, our feelings for prayer wane. Feelings can also tempt us to judge God’s ability to hear us by how we feel as we pray. Such notions are purely man-centered, not God-centered.

When we pray, God has promised to hear us. That promise is our guarantee of His attention. Today as we pray, rest in the certainty of God’s presence and full ear. If you don’t feel like praying, just tell God and leave the rest to Him.

Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it.
