Magnificent Prayer #218

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”

John 19:30

We try to explain why God answers prayer on the ground of reason; it is nonsense. God answers prayer on the ground of redemption and on no other ground.

Let us never forget that our prayers are heard, not because we are in earnest, not because we suffer, but because Jesus suffered.

OSWALD CHAMBERS

Pray About It: When Jesus breathed the words “It is finished” from the cross, He made it possible for every believer to come to enter the holiest of holies with boldness.

There is no way to understand our access to God through natural reason. The cross is foolishness to those who don’t know Christ. But to us, we see and appreciate the goodness of God to sinners. Today, reflect on the cross and His words, “It is finished.”

“It is finished.” The implication of the Greek word is “This is complete.” This is redemption complete. You can’t add to it. You can’t subtract from it. It doesn’t need something the priest says added to it. Jesus made a perfect redemption for men.
