Magnificent Prayer #217

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.

Proverbs 21:1

Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our person—but they are helpless against our prayer. Fellow Christians who love the cause of Christ—to prayer! To prayer! The times are calling us to it. We must press on.

J. SIDLOW BAXTER

Pray About It: Don’t worry about the reaction of those for whom you pray. They may resist you and your message, and your arguments, but they can’t prevail against God. Many are the testimonies of those who were saved, much to their own amazement, through the prayers of others. Keep on praying for that one who is hard of heart. He or she will come around. God will soften their hearts.

During this year I was informed about the conversion of one of the very greatest sinners, that I ever heard of in all my service for the Lord. Repeatedly I fell on my knees with his wife, and asked the Lord for his conversion. She often came to me in the deepest distress of soul, due to the barbarous and cruel treatment that she received from him, in his bitter enmity against her for the Lord’s sake, and because he could not provoke her to be in a passion. And now this awful persecutor is converted.
