Is anything too hard for the LORD?
Genesis 18:14 KJV
I have heard this verse used as a plea in asking for something very much desired which appeared to be for the glory of God. But I think we sometimes forget that the question refers to something God had said was to happen. It was not that Abraham said, “Lord, do such and such things for me. Surely they would be for Thy glory? Is anything too hard for the Lord?” but that God Himself was speaking of something which He had appointed to be—a son born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age.
Again and again I have been saved from disappointment in prayer by remembering this.

Pray About It: Some of the things we most ardently ask for are not for our good, as God well knows. But we claim it anyway, offering what we call faith, but what God might call wishful thinking or presumption. God is not Santa Claus. He will give what He has promised, but He will not give what you have mistakenly assumed you could have merely because you wanted it and found a verse to substantiate your desire.
No, God loves you too much. He would no more grant a foolish request than you would give a razor blade to a toddler who asked for it.
What you may wish to receive, but would misuse, God in His mercy refuses to bestow. Nay, more, if a Christian asks for something that would, if answered, only prove injurious, it’s better that God would withhold it in His kindness, rather than grant it in His anger.
