Magnificent Prayer #100
Magnificent Prayer #100
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Psalm 42:5–6
However great may be the temptation, if we know how to use the weapon of prayer well we shall come off as conquerors at last, for prayer is more powerful than all the devils. He who is attacked by the spirits of darkness needs only to apply himself vigorously to prayer and he will beat them back with great success.
BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX
Pray About It: The best antidote to spiritual depression is prayer. When we enter into communion with God, despair and hopelessness must go. Never fear the darkness. Overcome it through the power of prayer. Commune with the Lord Jesus who, though a “man of sorrows,” was also “anointed with gladness more than [His] companions,” (Hebrews 1:9). Truly the Christian’s strength is the joy of the Lord. Where His joy rests, hopelessness can’t remain.
If you’re one of those blessed with a sunny temperament, remember to pray for those who battle a seeming perpetual sadness.
If you have no joy in your religion, there’s a leak in your Christianity somewhere.
