Avoiding The Money Trap

Avoiding The Money Trap

Lord, how can I keep a balanced mind-set about money?

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For I have said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” People who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.

Hebrews 13:5; 1 Timothy 6:9

How can I keep from worrying about money all the time?

Everything you have comes from me, and you can give only what I first gave you! It is more blessed to give than to receive.

1 Chronicles 29:14; Acts 20:35

What can I pray to guide my perspective about money?

Lord, your Word says that light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous. Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly. Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered.

Psalm 112:4-6

Though our need for money is real, God makes it clear that the love of money is destructive. When we elevate money above God, it throws our perspective out of balance. Take an inventory of last month’s expenses. Do your finances reflect generosity? Selfishness? Lack of faith? What nonessential item did you spend the most on last month? What might this reveal about your current perspective on money?
