A Firm Foundation

A Firm Foundation

Lord, what is the secret to a godly home?

Unless I build a house, the work of the builders is wasted. When you come to me, listen to my teaching, and then follow it. You are like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built.

Psalm 127:1; Luke 6:47-48

What are some godly principles that will make my home well-built?

Love me with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. Commit yourself wholeheartedly to my commands. Tell future generations of my faithfulness to you. Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Discipline your children while there is hope. Otherwise, you will ruin their lives. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Clothe yourselves with love, which binds everyone together in perfect harmony.

Deuteronomy 6:5-6; Isaiah 38:19; Proverbs 22:6; Proverbs 19:18; Colossians 3:13-14

What can I pray as I seek to build a godly home?

I will be careful to live a blameless life. I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Psalm 101:2; Psalm 19:14

Go through your house and pray that God would be present, helping you to use your home to love him and others well. Pray that God would remind you to build your house upon his principles, honoring him in all you do and say.
