Pain Cultivates Your Hope For Healing - In the Evening When I Rest

Pain Cultivates Your Hope For Healing

Lord, what is the best perspective in dealing with physical pain?

Even though you have the Holy Spirit within you as a foretaste of future glory, you long for your body to be released from sin and suffering. You wait with eager hope for the day when I will give you your full rights as my adopted child, including the new body I have promised you.

Romans 8:23

How can I have an eternal perspective in the midst of my pain?

Since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin. You won’t spend the rest of your life chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do my will. That is why you never give up. Though your body is dying, your spirit is being renewed every day. For your present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for you a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

1 Peter 4:1-2; 2 Corinthians 4:16-17

When the pain is overwhelming, how should I pray?

I am on the verge of collapse, facing constant pain. Do not abandon me, O LORD. Do not stand at a distance, my God. Come quickly to help me, O Lord my savior.

Psalm 38:17, 21-22

Close your eyes and try to focus on the parts of your body that aren’t in pain. Go through each part and praise God for the areas that aren’t hurting. Thank him for the promise that in heaven, your whole body will be pain free. Ask him to renew your spirit to face each day.
