Even Perfection Has Its Limits
Lord Jesus, I feel so much pressure to have the perfect house, kids, vacations, etc. What does your Word say about striving for perfection?
Mary sat at my feet, listening to what I taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to me and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But I said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

How can I stop striving for perfection and rest in your perfect work?
After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort? For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to me as a perfect sacrifice for your sins.

Every day, we are bombarded by images of perfection. Magazines, TV shows, websites—the message they all send is that perfection is attainable! Do something this week that you know you won’t do perfectly. Play an instrument you haven’t practiced recently, draw a picture, cook a complicated recipe. Try to embrace this motto: It doesn’t have to be perfect to be good. Ask the Lord to help you embrace goodness without the illusion of perfection.
