Do Not Neglect Meeting Together

Do Not Neglect Meeting Together

Lord, how can I avoid feeling lonely and isolated?

There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. Christians are all parts of Christ’s body, and you all belong to each other. Do not neglect meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of my return is drawing near.

Proverbs 18:24; Romans 12:5; Hebrews 10:25

How can I build close connections and true friendships?

When you get together, encourage your friends in their faith, but also be encouraged by theirs. Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. When your friends are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.

Romans 1:12; Romans 12:9-15

What can I pray when I feel alone?

Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation! Even if my father and mother abandon me, you will hold me close.

Psalm 27:9-10

The world is more connected today than ever. With smartphones and social media, we are only a click away from our friends. Yet many people report feeling more isolated and lonely than ever. Think about your daily connections with others. Are they mostly through social media? How often do you see your friends in person, connecting face-to-face and encouraging one another? Schedule a time to meet with a friend this week. Have him or her over for dinner, or meet for lunch, with the intention of building a deeper sense of connection and community.
