Compassion Needed
Lord, how do you show compassion?
I am like a father to my children, tender and compassionate to those who fear me. I care about you, and I will pay attention to you. I will rescue the poor when they cry to me; I will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. I feel pity for the weak and the needy, and I will rescue them. I will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to me.

How can I have compassion like this for others?
If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can my love be in that person? Learn to do good. Seek justice. When my people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others. Share each other’s burdens.

What can I pray out of gratitude for your compassion to me?
How kind you are! How good you are! So merciful, O God of mine! You protect those of childlike faith; I was facing death, and you saved me. Let my soul be at rest again, for you have been good to me.

The world is full of people who desperately need to experience the compassion that Jesus offers them. Because he is always loving, tender, and full of sympathy toward us, how can we not act the same way toward others? How has God shown compassion to you? Who in your life needs to be shown that same compassion? Meet a need of theirs this week. (For example: write an encouraging note, send a thoughtful gift, forgive an offense, listen to their concerns.)
