Sometimes God chooses to demonstrate his power by supernaturally changing our circumstances. And sometimes he chooses to leave us in hard, difficult places, but gives us his sustaining power.

Your life feels like it’s in upheaval. When you listen to the news, you worry about what the world will be like for your children and grandchildren. The uncertainty about the future is overwhelming. There are natural disasters and personal earthquakes, and you’re not sure about how to move forward. On some days you feel hopeful, but at other times you are upended due to anxiety and fear. You are tempted to live in a constant state of insecurity. When trials come, you struggle to reconcile what you know to be true about Me with the seemingly insurmountable challenges of life.

Sometimes I bring immediate deliverance from adversity, but not always. The apostle Peter understood how to live with an unshaken faith in an uncertain world—he focused on eternal glory. “Don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world” (1 Peter 4:12-13). An unshaken, peaceful heart will only come when you trust in My unfailing love for you.

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
