The Next Generation

The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.

You are being watched by the younger people who are close to you—your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. They are observing the spiritual disciplines of your life. Do they see you reading the Bible? Do they hear you praying for your own needs and for them? Have they seen you reach out to someone who’s hurting, even when you are in the middle of your own hard circumstances? Do they hear praise on your lips, or do they hear complaints, criticism, and grumbling?

Be intentional about verbalizing what you know about My power and My creation. When you are awestruck by My works, talk out loud about praiseworthy things, powerful things, and the wonders I’ve done. Teach the children about My mighty deeds that are recorded in the Bible. Let them participate in praying for your needs, and then rejoice together when I answer your prayers. Teach them My statutes and speak of My promises. Put Me first in your daily decisions and demonstrate what it means to trust Me in every area of your life. Share your own story of how your personal faith has helped you endure with hope in difficult times. As you explain what I have done for you, the children in your life will learn to trust Me and to keep My commands.

We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.
