The Cross
The Cross
If we want proof of God’s love for us, then we must look first at the Cross where God offered up His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. Calvary is the one objective, absolute, irrefutable proof of God’s love for us.
Jerry Bridges
When you’re tempted to question My love for you, look at the Cross. When you wonder if I understand your pain, read about the suffering of Jesus on the cross. When you feel you can’t go on, envision wrapping up your heaviest burden and placing it at the foot of the cross—and trust Me with the results. Jesus said, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). He did that on the cross.
The power of the Cross isn’t only for the forgiveness of your sins. Yes, Jesus paid the price for your sins so you wouldn’t have to, but the ongoing power of the Cross is that He died and rose again to defeat the power of sin in your life today. To the world, this is a mystery. As the apostle Paul wrote, “The preaching of the cross is, I know, nonsense to those who are involved in this dying world, but to us who are being saved from that death it is nothing less than the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18, Phillips). Because of the Cross you have life, freedom, and eternal glory.
Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2, NIV
