My Lord

Will you keep going when you don’t know why? When you can’t get any answers that would make the pain go away, will you still say, “My Lord,” even though his ways are not clear to you? Will you keep going—with all the grace and grit and faith you can muster—and live in hope that one day God will set everything right.

Centering your thoughts on the lives of other people often leads you to make comparisons. Their journeys seem easier, less complicated, and more hope filled. Your life feels painful, less promising, and more difficult. At times you’ve wondered whether I love you as much as I love them. Doubts swirl and uncertainty robs you of joy.

My Son’s disciple Thomas often saw life through a skeptical lens. The evening after Jesus was raised from the dead, He stood in front of His disciples bringing words of reassurance. But Thomas missed the meeting. When he arrived later, the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” (John 20:25), but Thomas blurted out that he wouldn’t believe it without proof. When Thomas actually saw Jesus and touched Him, he believed. Jesus said, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me” (John 20:29). My child, will you call Me “Lord” without having all your questions answered right now? The choice is yours.

Then [Jesus] said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!” “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.
