We are the ones who throw stones. We are quick to judge without knowledge. . . . We label the messy people and gossip about the sinners and shake our heads in disgust. . . . And it couldn’t possibly be what Jesus had in mind when He said, “Go and teach them about Me.”

Have you ever felt like one of the messy people? Your life is chaotic, your family members are flawed, your own past is questionable, and your faith wavers. You’ve looked around and had the fleeting thought that I have “favorites” because those people appear to have loving families, financial security, perfect church attendance, encouraging friends, and stable health. Listen up! I love messy people who are not arrogant, self-absorbed, judgmental, and condescending. They admit they need help, and I can’t resist lavishing love and grace on them. I’m attracted to these people!

Once you’ve experienced this kind of unconditional acceptance, share it with everyone you meet. Don’t act shocked when you see people sin. Revel in My complete forgiveness yourself and pass the good news on to others. You may feel weak, but I am strong. There is no failure that can’t be covered by the blood of Christ.

The Samaritan woman, taken aback, asked, “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.) Jesus answered, “If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.”
