What I mean by living in the moment is fully engaging in the moment. Not just the casual ‘hello’ to someone or the polite, yet superficial, conversation that we are tempted to have. . . . Not living in the moment is equivalent to throwing away a precious gift without unwrapping it.

There are people all around you whom I want to touch through you. Many are hurting, hopeless, and lonely. They long for a kind word, a warm glance, a helping hand, or a living example of faith in action. Sometimes they reach out to you because they’ve observed your faith-filled response to a difficult experience and they desire insights that will keep them moving forward. At other times, strangers will come across your path, knock on your door, or encounter you in a public place. They need help, and they’re looking for hope.

Learn from the example of My Son. Jesus looked at people with eyes of compassion. His touch brought healing, encouragement, and faith. Word got around that He took time to listen and recognize the deep needs of people who came to Him, and He did something to help them. I want you to have a reputation like that. You might be the only person who ever listened to the heartache of a discouraged mother. You might be the one person who prayed out loud for a stranger who trusted you with a serious concern. Don’t miss these opportunities because you’re too busy or distracted. They are important moments. Look for them today.
