Ever-present God
Ever-present God
The most holy and necessary practice in our spiritual life is the presence of God. That means finding constant pleasure in His divine company, speaking humbly and lovingly with Him in all seasons, at every moment, without limiting the conversation in any way.
Brother Lawrence
I am here, always available to you, listening to your voice and desiring your company. You will become more and more aware of My presence by talking to Me often. Ask for My advice throughout the day. Let My presence infuse every moment—your rising in the morning, your activities during the day, and when you lay your head on your pillow at night. When you need wise counsel, I am here. When you are lonely, I am close to you. When you are afraid, I am protecting you. There is never a time when I am away from you.
There are times when you become so engaged in the temporary trials of life that you no longer feel My presence and you question where I am. Consider Jacob, the man who ran away from his angry brother, Esau. He slept on a stone pillow in a desolate land, and he had a dream. In his dream he saw a ladder that went from earth to heaven, and angels were going up and down the steps. Jacob suddenly awakened, aware that there was so much more going on in the invisible world than he realized. At that point Jacob knew that even when I seem the most absent, I am indeed ever-present.
Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!”
