Demonstrating Love

In the New Testament, love is more of a verb than a noun. It has more to do with acting than with feeling. The call to love is not so much a call to a certain state of feeling as it is to a quality of action.

There is someone in your life who is hard to love. Deep in your heart you know it will please Me if you choose to love that person, but your natural inclination is to turn away, hoping your omission will not be too obvious. However, the angst you feel is causing you lack of sleep and an uncertainty about how to move forward. You’re wasting too much energy on avoiding this person.

Practice a new way of responding. Even if you feel no love at first, begin by doing one loving act of service for that person. Be creative as you consider all the possibilities at your disposal. Think of My great love for you. I loved the world so much that I gave My one and only Son so you could be free from sin and enter into a personal relationship with Me. Your gesture of love will be a testimony to those who are watching that you belong to Me.

Now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.
