Compassion
Compassion
Compassion asks us to go where it hurts, to enter into places of pain, to share in brokenness, fear, confusion, and anguish. Compassion challenges us to cry out with those in misery, to mourn with those who are lonely, to weep with those in tears.
Henri Nouwen
Look around and find someone who needs help even more than you do. One of the ways I help you grow is by asking you to do what My Son did. Search the Gospels and you’ll find that Jesus looked compassionately on those who were in need, and in many instances, healing took place because He physically touched them. Begin by focusing on one person in need. Ask Me to help you find a creative way to perform a tangible act of kindness for that person. You may think you lack the financial resources to make a difference, but remember that money is often not the greatest need.
When you wait with someone who is longing for relational healing, or care for the child of a young parent who feels overwhelmed, or spend time with someone who’s lonely, or pray with a friend who was betrayed by a spouse, you are following the example of Christ. You’ll soon discover that when you show compassion to others, your own spirits will be lifted and My presence will surround you.
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew 9:36, NIV
