Your character is the strength of your moral fiber. When you follow the example of My Son, you will develop Christlikeness in your thoughts, desires, disposition, intentions, and actions. Your character will influence your choices. When Daniel was in captivity, he consistently made choices that honored Me, resulting in unquestionable integrity. “Daniel was determined not to defile himself” (Daniel 1:8).

My purpose is to develop good character in you. You feel you’ve been in a fiery furnace of affliction. The enemy wants you to give up. Remember what Daniel’s three friends said when King Nebuchadnezzar threatened to throw them into a roaring furnace if they would not bow down to his idol: “If you throw us in the fire, the God we serve can rescue us. . . . But even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference. . . . We still wouldn’t serve your gods” (Daniel 3:16-18, MSG). Even though you face challenging obstacles, if you continue to be a person who is above reproach, self-controlled, peacemaking, honest, mature, and respectable, your character will shine with the light of My Son, setting an excellent example for others.

May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.
