A New Song

As long as God is gracious toward us, as long as he keeps showing us his power, and wowing us with his works, it is fitting that we not just sing old songs inspired by his past grace, but also that we sing new songs about his ever-streaming, never-ceasing grace.

Sing a fresh song of praise to Me. Meditate on what I have done to rescue you from past hurts, challenges, and pressures. You waited patiently for Me to answer your prayers, and now you have experienced new mercies. Your heart longs to respond. The psalmist said, “Sing to the LORD a new song” (Psalm 96:1, NIV). When I delivered you, I gave you a new song, a hymn to honor Me. I love all of your songs of worship, but now I want you to express your love for Me anew—with a freshness that reflects your rekindled love for Me.

You don’t have to be a gifted singer to praise Me in this way. While you are at home, or driving your car, or taking a walk, sing to Me. It doesn’t have to be an identifiable tune—but your words and melody will bless Me. When you sing among other people, many will see what [I have] done and be amazed. They will put their trust in [Me]. Through your new song and the spontaneous, heartfelt joy you express, other people will recognize the works I have done. Your act of worship will draw them to consider who I truly am.

He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.
