A Happy Heart

A Happy Heart

We can find lasting and settled happiness by saying yes to the God who created and redeems us and by embracing a biblical worldview. When we look at the world and our daily lives through the lens of redemption, reasons for happiness abound.

Randy Alcorn

I want you to have a happy heart—not only on days when everything is going according to your plan, but on the difficult days too! This heart response is a deliberate decision to choose joy, delight, and gladness based on what you know to be true about My character. False happiness is pretending everything is fine. Authentic happiness is embracing the peace, contentment, and inner satisfaction of walking with Me and looking for bursts of joy in everyday life.

When you walk in My truth and follow My principles, your heart will delight in My presence. The psalmist learned the secret: “Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found” (Psalm 119:35). You may go through loss of health, family members, financial security, and reputation, but continue to lean on Me. Look for the specific places where I am providing for your physical needs and for your personal encouragement. Find joy in the little things and you’ll soon discover reasons for the happiness that surrounds you right now. Allow yourself to laugh out loud and take pleasure in the joyful sound coming out of your mouth. Cultivate the spirit of celebration in your heart by making room for laughter. Deliberately seek it out.

For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.

Proverbs 15:15
