The Anchor Of The Soul

The Anchor of the Soul

O Lord, you alone are my hope.

Psalm 71:5

There is a universal expectation for good in this life—even in the midst of adversity. The need or desire to trust that things will get better is what the concept of hope is all about.

When you long for life to get better, where do you place your hope—in your own abilities, good fortune, or help from others? Or does your hope come from trusting God? Only when you trust God with your future can true hope begin to grow, because he created you with a great future in mind.

This week you will practice hoping in God, not just experiencing hope itself. This will require addressing where your current hope lies and choosing instead to hope in God. Hope in God gives you confident joy in the face of uncertainty because it anchors your soul and future to him (see Hebrews 6:19).

Begin this week by being honest with God about your hopes. Many of these exercises involve meditating on God’s wonderful promises in his Word and allowing these truths to grow your hope in him alone.
