Restrain Yourself And Rest

Restrain Yourself and Rest

There is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.

Hebrews 4:9-10

In 24/6: A Prescription for a Healthier, Happier Life, Matthew Sleeth states, “Rest shows us who God is. He has restraint. Restraint is refraining from doing everything that one has the power to do. We must never mistake God’s restraint for weakness. The opposite is true. God shows restraint; therefore, restraint is holy.”*

Think about three areas where you can practice restraint today so you can embrace rest.

For example, you could (1) say no to a social engagement, (2) skip an unnecessary errand, and (3) choose not to take work home.

At the end of the day, talk to God about how it felt to refrain from those activities and to rest.
