Prayer Motives

Prayer Motives

When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.

Matthew 6:5

Spend a few minutes reflecting with God on the following questions:

  • Do you pray or mention prayer in conversation so people can see how “spiritual” you are?
  • When you pray with others, are you more focused on what they think or on simply pleasing God?
  • Do you try to sound more intelligent, religious, or passionate when you pray publicly than when you pray alone?

As you did yesterday, if you answered yes to any of these questions, what can you intentionally do today to begin to change your attitude?
