Giving Motives

Giving Motives

When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.

Matthew 6:2

Spend a few minutes with God reflecting on these questions:

  • Do you give so others can see how “spiritual” you are?
  • Do you mention your gifts or volunteer work in conversation to receive praise?
  • When you give, are you more focused on what others think about your gifts than on simply pleasing God?
  • Do you feel hurt, rejected, or disappointed when someone does not respond the way you want over a gift you have given them?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, what can you do today to begin to change your attitude?
