Keep Less, Give More

Keep Less, Give More

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

2 Corinthians 9:7

The world encourages us to make more and keep more. The Bible, however, focuses on how much we should give away. The way we spend our money reveals what we care most about.

Generosity doesn’t just involve giving money to help others—it also concerns the giving of our time, talents, and possessions. We give because everything we have was given to us (see 1 Chronicles 29:14). Generosity is important because it teaches us to trust God with our resources and put others before ourselves. When we give, it helps us release our grip on the things we hold too tightly.

The exercises this week could be hard if God shows you a treasure in your heart that has taken priority over him. Talk to him about the areas where you find it hard to be generous. Ask him to unleash the gift of generosity in you so that you can receive the joy that comes from giving.
