In Tune, In Touch

In Tune, In Touch

Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them.

Hosea 14:9

Discernment is about becoming more and more sensitive to God’s voice and direction. God promises that he will guide and counsel you (Psalm 32:8), lead you to truth (John 16:13), and help you listen for his voice (John 10:27). However, this happens only when you live connected to him. Practically, this involves praying, reading Scripture, listening to God, opening yourself to his direction and to interruptions to your schedule, and recognizing how your desires and motives hinder your ability to hear him well. Discernment is being so in tune with God’s voice that you recognize it when he speaks to you.

Some of this week’s exercises will ask you to involve God in decisions that may seem silly or insignificant. Remember that God desires you to invite him into all your plans and decisions—both the big and the small. Learning to discern God’s leading in small things will prepare you to better recognize his voice when the big decisions come along.
