Heart Problems

Heart Problems

I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent.

2 Corinthians 11:3

Which sins most tempt you? Are you aware of when you are most vulnerable to Satan’s attacks? Wherever you are most susceptible to temptation is where you will discover a “heart problem.” In the Bible, the heart is considered the center of thought and feeling. God cautions us to guard the heart above all else, because it determines the course of our lives (see Proverbs 4:23). Therefore, one of the most important things we can do is to watch over it closely. The practice of “guarding your heart,” also called “watchfulness,” is being alert to Satan’s temptations.

These exercises will help you grow in self-awareness, which is essential if you are to withstand being blindsided by the enemy. Self-awareness alone is not enough to produce watchfulness. You need to ask for help from the Holy Spirit and godly friends. Ask the Lord to help you be proactive in your battle for those places in your heart most vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks.
