Getting Unstuck

Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth!

Psalm 86:11

The older we get, the more we tend to become stuck in our ways and avoid the humbling feeling of learning something new. Scripture, however, calls us to be lifelong learners, with the Lord as our primary teacher and guide.

Practicing “teachability” means being open to new ways of doing things, putting aside the need to appear intelligent or self-sufficient—being okay with not knowing it all. Life is an adventure, and God always has something new for us to learn. What if we woke up every day ready to grow with God and absorb his wisdom? Isaiah 30:20 says that even in days of pain and adversity, God wants to teach us. He longs for us to be open to learning from him.

As you practice “teachability” this week, ask God to help you learn how to live as an eager apprentice—ready to absorb something new each day. Embrace the role of a student this week, remembering that someday, “you will see your teacher with your own eyes” (Isaiah 30:20).
