Enjoy And Glorify
Enjoy and Glorify
You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.
Revelation 4:11
Have you ever experienced incredible joy yet still felt like there was something missing? Maybe it was a beautiful sunset, your child’s first belly laugh, or the wedding of a close friend.
C. S. Lewis wrote, “Fully to enjoy is to glorify.”* Our joy in something is made complete when we give praise and glory to the one who gave it to us. This is worship. Dallas Willard expressed a similar sentiment: “In worship we . . . express the greatness, beauty, and goodness of God through thought and the use of words, rituals, and symbols.”*
This week, release yourself from the expectation of having a divine encounter with God. Perhaps he is teaching you to worship him for who he is and not for an experience. Some exercises will help you be honest about who or what you truly worship. Other exercises will involve reflecting on God’s beauty in the world and his goodness in your life, and then responding with praise to him.
