Don’t Miss Out

Too often we live our days on autopilot—being physically there but not really being present. In Here and Now, Henri Nouwen explains the power of being present by stating, “The real enemies of our life are the ‘oughts’ and the ‘ifs.’ They pull us backward into the unalterable past and forward into the unpredictable future. But real life takes place in the here and the now.”*

Being present means waking up to the world around us so we don’t miss God’s gifts. This isn’t meant to be practiced only in good times, but in difficult times too. God is always at work and has gifts for us that are just waiting to be unwrapped.

These gifts are harder to see in difficult seasons, and we won’t find them by living in the past or looking to the future. So whether we are in a season of joy or sorrow, we can see every moment as an opportunity to discover and unwrap the wonderful gifts God has for us in the present.
