Nighttime Thoughts
Nighttime Thoughts
I reflect at night on who you are, O Lord;
therefore, I obey your instructions.

Negative thoughts and lies often come knocking at nighttime. The same happens when darkness envelops us in the night of the soul. Our imagination takes us to unwelcome places. Reflecting on who God is changes everything. I discovered this to be true after a broken engagement.
I began memorizing Bible verses and reviewed them while lying in bed at night. Meditating on God’s sovereignty renewed my confidence that he was in control. It brought hope that my future would turn out well despite changed plans. Meditating on his love helped free me from believing I was unlovable. Focusing on his justice empowered me to forgive and release my offender into his hands. If I’d allowed negative thoughts to dwell in my mind as I fell asleep, I’m certain I would have become an angry, vengeful woman.
Where do your thoughts take you in the darkness? Don’t let them be the boss of you. Take control and direct them to a life-giving place. Reflect on scriptures that remind you of who God is, and you’ll blossom in this hard place.
Ponder
Choose one facet of God’s character and meditate on it tonight.
Pray
Father, take control of my mind. Train my thoughts to think more on you.
“I want to shape my world around God’s truth because I know as a scientist and a believer, paying attention to my thoughts and purposefully focusing my mind leads to great transformations.”
