Jesus—prince Of Peace

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.

My best childhood friend and I reunited after more than thirty years apart. Sadly, she was in hospice battling cancer. Time was short so we bypassed small talk. Our conversation dove directly into all things Jesus. We shared stories of how he’d helped us over the years. We spoke about having learned to live the truths he taught. Best, we talked about the hope of heaven and of meeting Jesus face-to-face.

My girlfriend had placed her faith in Jesus for salvation decades prior. Her love for him had deepened over time. Now, in the valley of the shadow of death, her courage manifested his presence and her countenance reflected his peace.

Trials and sorrows are inevitable. Tears flow, but an underlying peace is possible in the midst of them if we know the one who conquered pain and death. Jesus is the prince of peace. When we invite him into our life and choose to trust him, he rules over our circumstances and his comfort reigns in our hearts.
