How do I deal with loss in my life?

A Moment with God

“Where have you put him?” [Jesus] asked them. They told him, “Lord, come and see.” Then Jesus wept. The people who were standing nearby said, “See how much he loved him!”

Grieving is a process that should not be denied or hurried. The rituals of wakes, visitations, funerals, and memorial services all help you move through stages of grief over the death of someone you love. If your loss is related to a friend’s moving away, a damaged relationship, or the loss of a job, you still need to allow yourself to grieve in order to come to a point of healing after the loss.

Job stood up and tore his robe in grief [and said, “. . . The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away.”

Losses always bring pain. Expressing that pain is not wrong or sinful; rather, it is a healthy expression of how God created you.

The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words. I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Lamentations 3:18-25

Those who know God grieve with the assurance of his love and have hope. Those who don’t know God grieve alone and without hope.

You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever.

Hebrews 10:34

It is important to allow yourself the necessary time to grieve, but there is a time for grieving to end. And as a Christian, you have the comfort of knowing that one day you will be with God in heaven, where all grief will be gone forever.
